While DC pushed back against the idea of having the same characters show up on their television shows and in their films, the popularity of The Flash forced them to reconsider. Supergirl began life on CBS last year and hinted at the existence of Superman, referring to him as Clark and “cousin.” He even got to appear as a silhouette and a blur at one point! This season, though, the Man of Steel is a major marketing point for the show and will be appearing in the first few episodes, played by actor Tyler Hoechlin.
A new Supergirl trailer debuting this week shows the two Earth-dwelling members of the House of El on screen together for the first time. We don’t get much in the way of hints about what has brought Supes to National City, but seeing Superman in motion, even for just a moment, has me excited to see the two interacting. The first image of this new television incarnation of Superman had me a bit nervous due to some weird Photoshopping that had him looking less like Superman and more like Bizarro.
Supergirl season 2 premieres on October 10, just days after The Flash and Arrow return on October 4 and 5 and just before Legends of Tomorrow makes another go of it on October 13. The four super shows have a big crossover planned for December.
