It’s easy to forget that under the white Stormtrooper armor is a living, breathing person. A new short, Jakku: First Wave, attempts to humanize these soldiers by showing a compelling exchange before a major battle.
The short film takes place on Jakku, the isolated desert planet that was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That same film actually did a pretty good job showing the other side of the coin by having Finn defect from the First Order, but Jakku: First Wave is a more intimate look at the people fighting on behalf of the Dark Side.
Directed by Benjamin Eck and starring Joseph Bearor, Aaron Goddard, and Tyler Wolfe, First Wave isn’t just gripping because it occurs in the Star Wars universe, but it reinforces the notion that war is hell, even in a galaxy far, far away.
