See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloIf you weren’t satisfied by the version of Suicide Squad that hit theaters in August, perhaps the Extended Edition will be more fulfilling. As we near the movie’s home release, Warner Bros. has announced fans will get a longer cut of the movie, although it’s unclear what this new footage will include. More Joker? More action? More humor?
Before the final theatrical cut was finalized, there were apparently two different versions of the movie floating around: one that director David Ayer wanted to show, and another that was edited by the same company that put the movie’s first trailer together. Ayer’s cut was allegedly received poorly by Warner Bros. executives because of its darker tone, so the cut audiences saw in theaters was apparently a mix between the two.
So what does that Extended Edition entail exactly? We should find out soon enough—the announcement trailer doesn’t exactly reveal much. It’s worth noting, however, that the longer cut of Batman v Superman was actually superior to the release audiences saw in theaters, so who knows what this new footage will include.
According to Jared Leto, a lot of his scenes as Joker were cut out of the theatrical release, so the new footage could focus entirely on him. (At this point, I don’t know if seeing more of him as Joker is a good thing or a bad thing.)
Fans of Suicide Squad will be able to pick the movie up on digital HD on Nov. 11 and Blu-ray on Dec. 13.
