Wolverine 3 gets an official title, won’t overuse CG

Wolverine 3 will supposedly be Hugh Jackman’s last outing as the mutton-chopped superhero, and if that’s the case, it sounds like he’s going out with a bang. The actor on Wednesday revealed the first marketing for the film, which is now apparently going by the title of Logan. But that’s not even the kicker.

Director James Mangold shared a picture of the movie’s screenplay, which has some serious gems. Not only will Logan be violent, but its tone will different compared to other superhero flicks. You can say that it’s even mocking films in its own universe, kind of like the meta jokes used in Deadpool.

Here’s a particularly telling passage from the script (below), which occurs in the middle of a scene of Logan being shot:

Now might be a good time to talk about the ‘fights’ described in the next 100 or so pages. Basically, if you’re on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying, CG f—athon, this isn’t your movie.

In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won’t bounced. They will die.

As for our hero, well, he’s older now and it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were. He’s fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain—hence booze as a painkiller.

So, yeah, it’s clear Logan isn’t afraid to go hard on that R-rating.

This version of Wolverine will be much more vulnerable to damage, similar to how we saw him in 2013’s Wolverine. In that film, his healing state was slowed and he took a real beating as a result. Logan will find him in a similar situation and the only way he can mitigate the pain is to self-medicate with booze.

Logan has been rumored to be loosely based on the “Old Man Logan” comic book storyline, which is violent and not for the faint of heart. If Logan is anywhere close to that, fans are in for a very different kind of movie.

We should expect a trailer fairly soon here. Logan is scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
