When Alden Ehrenreich becomes Han Solo in Disney’s upcoming spinoff, he’ll not only be joined by a young Lando Calrissian but another mysterious character, too.
According to a report from Variety, Disney is closer than ever to choosing an actor for the female lead in the upcoming project, with three major stars vying for the role: Tessa Thompson (Creed), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), and Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road) among the names being considered.
Disney is apparently taking its time making a decision because filming doesn’t start until the beginning of next year. However, all three actors tested as recently as this week, and Variety claims Disney could make a formal announcement in the next few weeks.
Variety also claims Disney is prepared to take its time casting for the role of Lando Calrissian. Reports surfaced earlier this year claiming Donald Glover was picked by Disney to play the iconic character, but sources say the studio is doing a second round of tests.
After Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode VIII, the untitled Han Solo spinoff is next in line as part of Disney’s anthology films.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Han Solo film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 25, 2018.
