He has the face of Gimli but the voice of an angel, and he sings all of your favorite video game themes in acapella. YouTube user Smooth McGroove, real name Max Gleason, has taken off over the past several months with his amazing ability to arrange popular video game theme songs and sing them to perfection.
He sometimes covers up to 16 different layers of audio by himself, no easy feat by any means.
Since starting his account nine months ago, Smooth McGroove has racked up an impressive 522,000 subscribers and plans to release his own albums should he continue to gain more support as he has seen. He has even been nominated for a CVG Golden Joystick Award for in the YouTube Gamer category.
His library extends mostly through classic NES, Super Nintendo, and SEGA Genesis titles, especially when it comes to Mega Man and other Capcom games. Each release shows increasing quality of his choices, both popular and more obscure, and he shows no sign of slowing down, able to crank out a new song within a weeks time.
Far and away, his most popular video has been he remix of Guile’s theme from Street Fighter II, which has pulled in 4 million views. I’ve provided only two of my favorites, but there are a lot to choose from.
If you have not seen one of Smooth McGroove’s videos, please heed this quick warning. They are insanely addictive and watching only one is impossible, especially for fans of classic video game music. You might be glued to YouTube for an hour or so if you are not careful.
