Speaking during Apple’s fiscal fourth quarter 2013 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed a statement on whether or not Apple sees any threat from Chromebooks and other low-cost tablets and computers. Cook answered by revealing a stat we had not heard before: that Apple has a 94 percent share of the tablet market among educational institutions.

We know that some school districts are betting big on the iPad, including the Los Angeles Unified School district, though that program hasn’t gone off without a hitch. The school miscalculated how much the iPads would cost and also failed to prevent students from using their iPad for activities outside of education.

Cook’s short answer was that no, Apple doesn’t have any fear of Chromebooks, or any other low-cost tech, from taking away its market share.
