See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloAfter teasing the feature at WWDC in June, Apple on Tuesday finally rolled single sign-on to iOS and tvOS users. Brace yourselves, because things are about to get very confusing. You don’t need a degree in astrophysics to understand Apple’s new feature but the company sure tries its hardest to make things complicated.
The feature is only support by a handful of providers right now, listed below:
- CenturyLink Prism
- DirecTV
- Dish
- GVTC
- GTA
- Hawaiian Telcom
- Hotwire
- MetroCast
- Sling
That’s an incredibly limited launch lineup. Notable absentees include Comcast, VerizonFiOS, and Time Warner Cable. Apple says many more providers are expected to support the feature, so don’t switch your plan just yet. But, obviously, your options are limited right now.
The Cupertino company also notes that even if your provider supports single sign-on, some apps may still need to be signed in individually if they aren’t updated.
Complicating matters even more is the fact that supported apps may differ depending on if you’re using iOS or tvOS. Below is the full list of apps that support the new feature as of Dec. 6, with more to come in the future.
Single sign-on is underwhelming right now
Not exactly what we were hoping for. Big names such as HBO, Showtime, and WatchESPN don’t support the feature at the moment, so you’ll have to wait for an update.
Single sign-on is one of many exciting new features meant to beef up Apple’s TV ambitions. In an upcoming update, the company is also expected to release a new TV app, which is a one-stop-shop for accessing shows and movies from third-party video apps.
