George R.R. Martin, author of the popular Game of Thrones series, says that the next novel in the series might be out this year. It’s like… the 30th time he’s said that (not really, but he’s delayed it several times).
Martin revealed the possibility in a comment on his site where he was responding to a fan who had asked about the release and noted that Martin hasn’t provided an update in a year.
“You really think statements like that would make a difference? Ah, you sweet summer child,” Martin said.”I have years of experience with this that tells me otherwise. But okay, I will try it your way. Not done yet, but I’ve made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).”
We’ve heard this before
Yes, he did say the same thing in 2016. A rumor in September, which began from a bogus Amazon listing, suggested that Winds of Winter might launch in March, but that was quickly shot down by publisher Random House. I’m excited for the book, clearly, since it’ll almost certainly continue to take a far different path than the HBO TV series Game of Thrones. I’m willing to wait until it’s finished, even if it’s not this year.
