This deleted scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens is shockingly violent

The Star Wars universe is no stranger to dismemberment, but this deleted scene from The Force Awakens is still shocking.

When Rey and Finn travel to Maz Kanata’s castle, they find themselves among a crowd of unfamiliar faces. One such face, however, winds up being Unkar Plutt, who audiences saw handing out portions for scrap metal on Jakku.

Still peeved that Rey “stole” the Millennium Falcon, Plutt tries to forcefully remove her from the cantina as punishment. But in steps Chewbacca, who disarms Plutt of a blaster and gives him a little what for.

Plutt doesn’t take too kindly to this and immediately starts egging Chewie on. Without saying another word, Chewie grabs Plutt by the arm and rips it right off.

It’s a little violent for Star Wars

We’ve seen dismemberment in a Star Wars movie before but it still feels out of place in The Force Awakens, which is overall pretty harmless. The deleted scene isn’t completely finished—Plutt’s CGI is mostly placeholder—but it certainly gets its point across.

In A New Hope, Han Solo tells C-3PO and R2-D2 that it isn’t wise to upset a Wookiee. After seeing this scene, we know why.
