Pop culture’s obsession with zombies may have subsided with The Walking Dead’s awful cliffhanger last season, but Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet looks fresh enough to reignite the genre. Rather than create a hyper-realistic portrayal of how humanity would handle a zombie apocalypse, the new series explores what happens when a suburban mom is zombified—yet somehow remains herself.

The Netflix show is primarily a dark comedy that uses elements of horror to tell the story of Sheila (Drew Barrymore) and her unusual transformation. It’s unclear how Sheila suddenly becomes a member of the undead but that’s not really the point. The point is the see how Sheila handles her newfound “superpowers.”

Obviously, the show hinges on an audience’s suspension of disbelief. But if you can get onboard with the concept, Santa Clarita Diet looks like a lot of fun. It looks like a weird cross between Warm Bodies meets Dexter, in that Sheila and her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant) decide the only way to accept her new fate is to eat bad people.

Is she a zombie or a ghoul?

Netflix recently released A Series of Unfortunate Events, which critics praised for being a faithful recreation of the books. Santa Clarita Diet looks like another fantastic addition to the service’s growing library of original content. At least, there’s a lot to like based on this one trailer.

Santa Clarita Diet lands on Netflix on Feb. 3.
