Now that Iron Fist has been released, Marvel is ready to move on to the Defenders. A new teaser for the upcoming ensemble show was released on Tuesday, along with an official release date: August 18.
The upcoming show will find Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist assemble into one big supergroup. They’ll take on an antagonist played by Sigourney Weaver, though little information is known about her character, who is named Alexandra.
Previously, her character has been described as a “very powerful force” in New York City. That pretty much describes all of the villains we’ve seen so far, but she’ll apparently be much more “sophisticated, intellectual, and dangerous.”
The show’s official synopsis says it will take place after the second season of Daredevil. In addition to the four heroes, Elektra, Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, Stick, Claire Temple, and other familiar characters are said to appear in the upcoming miniseries.
The preview doesn’t reveal much
The teaser that was released doesn’t really show much, though it does its job of collecting the heroes in one place. That should be more than enough to hype people for the show’s imminent arrival.
The IP address shown at the top of the video is also relevant because once typed into a browser, it brings up a fake website for the New York Bulletin. If you’re a follower of the Netflix shows, you’ll find fake articles about what the different characters are up to.
Marvel’s the Defenders will hit Netflix on August 18.
