Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was Disney’s first attempt at exploring new stories in the galaxy far, far away and it was a rousing success. It grossed over $1 billion at the box office and earned glowing reviews, but all that success couldn’t stop the guys over at Screen Junkies were going to make a blistering yet hilarious Honest Trailer for the movie—and they did.
Note: There are major spoilers ahead.
The Honest Trailer starts off not holding anything back taking on its storyline, which is either a rehash of original Star Wars material or a $200 million fan film to fill the plot hole. The movie presents an all-new gang of rebels that you shouldn’t get too attached to. We won’t go further into detail, but I think it’s pretty clear what happens. The new trailer also highlights K-2SO, “a droid with more personality than any of the human characters.” Truthfully, we can’t argue with that, but the blind man (Chirrut Îmwe) with a stick (who is pretty much a Jedi) is pretty cool too. The Storm Troopers also make a return with the same incompetence that makes them so lovable.
Rogue One is really enjoyable, but not all is perfect with the movie. The Honest Trailer astutely points out that some of the dialogue isn’t exactly the best, most notably a few of Darth Vader’s lines. “Be careful not to choke on your aspiration” isn’t one to remember, but the Screen Junkies’ response to it is classic: “who let George Lucas write a line?”
Suicide Squad: An Unnecessary Star Wars Story
Screen Junkies always give their Honest Trailer movies a new title at the end and the one they gave Rogue One is probably the best one yet. Suicide Squad: An Unnecessary Star Wars Story is genius title because it aptly states exactly what the movie is about and unsurprisingly fits Rogue One better than it did Suicide Squad.
