Like taxes, the only sure thing in life is death. It comes for all of us (at least once). For Sean Bean, it’s become his legacy.
The English actor is famously known in Hollywood for perishing in several of his films, from Goldeneye to The Island. He even died in the trailer for Civilization VI. The guy just can’t catch a break.
Out of the numerous times Bean has died in a movie, the actor says the demise of Boromir in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is his favorite.
“It’s my favorite death scene, and I’ve done a few,” Bean told Entertainment Weekly, seemingly seeing the humor in his reputation. “You couldn’t ask for a more heroic death.”
After attempting to steal the Ring from Frodo, Borimir redeems himself by protecting Merry and Pippin from the the Uruk-hai. He valiantly holds them off, but is mortally wounded by the Uruk-hai chieftain. It’s an incredibly powerful scene, which ends with Borimir sharing a touching moment with Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) before succumbing to his wounds.
Out of the many times Bean has died on-screen, it’s easy to see why his heroic turn as Borimir is his favorite.
