The Merc with a Mouth’s first outing blew all expectations out of the water, leaving fans drooling for the next installment and executives drooling for the cash that would come rolling in as a result. Now, Deadpool 2 has an official release date to go with that delicious teaser from earlier this year.
Deadpool 2 is set to debut on June 1. Collider notes that puts it a week after the Han Solo solo film and a week before Ocean’s 8 and the upcoming Transformers spin-off starring Bumblebee. That’s some stiff competition and a bit of a surprise. It could set it up to make even more money than the first film, or it could give it some unneeded competition. We’ll see next summer, I suppose.
That’s a lot of competition
What do we know about the movie? Cable and Domino, two common faces in Deadpool’s world, will be portrayed by Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz respectively. Brolin can also be seen as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Beetz is perhaps best known for appearing in the sitcom Atlanta. Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be returning for this film, as well. The movie itself, meanwhile, is being directed by John Wick co-director David Leitch, as director Tim Miller stepped down after the first movie.
The first Deadpool hit in February of 2016, giving it an otherwise uncompetitive theater line-up to face off against. The sequel will not only be hitting between big blockbuster movies, but within about a month of Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp, which are currently set to release on May 4th and July 6th respectively. That’s a lot of competition from different directions.
We’re eager to see how Deadpool 2 fares with critics and moviegoers when it hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
