The Hollywood Reporter claims Leonardo DiCaprio, who most recently starred in 2013′s The Wolf of Wall Street, has been approached to take on the role of Steve Jobs in the much anticipated biopic. After plans to snag Christian Bale apparently fell through, the studio behind the Aaron Sorkin-penned juggernaut has quickly moved forward to bring in one of today’s most respected and talented actors. DiCaprio has played a number of historical figures before, including Howard Hughes in The Aviator and J. Edgar Hoover in 2011’s J. Edgar.
The 40-year-old actor has had an illustrious career that spans more than thirty different films, so he certainly has the experience and range for dramatic roles. Currently on the actor’s docket is a thriller set to come out in 2015 called The Revenant, so DiCaprio seemingly has time on his schedule. According to the report, Danny Boyle is in talks to direct; the two previously worked together on the movie adaption of 2000’s The Beach.
Danny Boyle has a wide ranging portfolio of movies, including Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and Sunshine, among many others. If the pairing can agree to terms, the biopic, which is said to focus on Steve Jobs ahead of three major product announcements, will certainly be in capable hands. DiCaprio obviously has no outward resemblance of Jobs, but he no doubt has the chops to capture the ruthlessness and charm we most remember Jobs for.
