An extended trailer for The CW’s new series, The Flash, was released on Thursday, summing up pretty much an entire season’s worth of content in just five minutes. Not that we’re complaining, because the show actually looks pretty great. The setup is pretty familiar to most superhero origin stories: an unassuming half-wit gains power under mysterious circumstances, and must decide if he wants to use those powers for good. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the famous DC Comics superhero appear on TV, though this latest live action series looks like it won’t disappoint.
The CW show will focus on Barry Allen, and how he came to be Flash—a crime-fighting badass with superhuman abilities. This is actually a spin-off of Arrow (also airing on The CW), and exists in the same universe, so anybody following that show (currently in its second season) will be introduced to another famous DC hero. Flash was only just picked up on May 8, and isn’t expected to air until this fall. But there’s already plenty of promise.
Below is the official synopsis, courtesy of The CW.
After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become… The Flash.
