Filming for the upcoming World of Warcraft movie has officially wrapped up. Director Duncan Jones has confirmed on Twitter that the highly anticipated adaptation of the world’s most popular MMORPG is finished and that he is ready for a nap.

World of Warcraft was originally slated for theaters next Christmas, but that release date would put itself in direct competition with J.J. Abrams first Star Wars movie. Naturally, this means that Legendary Pictures would want to aim for a release date that wouldn’t see it totally destroyed upon release, and the film is now set to March 11, 2016.
Duncan Jones and his behind-the-scene workers will now have plenty of time to make this film the best that it can possibly be.
World of Warcraft hasn’t been seeing the best numbers in the world lately with subscribers finally getting a little tired of the whole affair an entire decade after the game’s release. If Duncan Jones indeed has a hit on his hands, this film could be the one to revive interest in the series and see the population of Azeroth flee back to its servers for more boar hunting.
It takes a lot for me to get excited for a video game film adaptation, but World of Warcraft is hitting all the right notes. It already has a fascinating setting rich with lore and characters worth exploring in film. Not only that, but I am in no way emotionally connected to the Warcraft universe and have no personal expectations of the film whatsoever.
Best of all, Legendary Productions signed an awesome director to helm the project after Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi jumped ship. Duncan Jones is all about geek culture and should know the source material well enough to know what’s worth exploring. He also has directed two wonderful movies called Moon and Source Code, which are definitely worth hunting down if you haven’t seen them yet. They’ll alone make you a believer in this Warcraft movie.
Anybody getting excited to see it now that filming has wrapped up?
