Well, forget the iWatch for now because this is amazing. Samsung just announced an incredible new wearable health platform called Simband during a press conference in California. The device is basically a wearable, similar to smartwatches we have today complete with a screen, that Samsung hopes developers will use to create exiting new apps and products using tools that will launch later this year. Simband is insanely powerful, and we saw a demonstration of just how it works in one demonstration.
The Simband is capable of measuring, right now, your heart rate, temperature and heart rate vitality. Also, with different colored lights that exist inside the band, it’s capable of finding your oxygen levels, testing your blood pressure and more. By touching a metal clasp, you’ll complete a connection that allows Simband to provide a real-time EKG and the pulse arrival time, too. In the demonstration, we saw the heart rate information pumping clear as day right on the Simband.
Even cooler: Simband charges while you sleep, presumably using some form of kinetic charging, so you don’t have to take it off and charge it. Samsung said it will release the platform APIs by the end of this year, keep in mind this is a platform that it hopes others will take advantage of for new and more futuristic wearables — so we’ll need to see what comes out of it.
