Universal Orlando’s New Diagon Alley Expansion Looks Incredible

Guests of Universal Orlando Resort will have the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the world of Harry Potter beginning July 8. The theme park will officially open a like-for-like representation of Diagon Alley, with points of interest such as the Leaky Cauldron, the Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and even a trek through the Gringotts bank vaults as the flagship attraction. And this is just the tip of the ice berg.

The Harry Potter-themed area of Universal Orlando has quickly become one of the park’s most popular attractions, offering fans re-creations of both Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Hogsmeade. The newest phase, which began construction back in 2011, will build on that by introducing Muggles to a more immersive Harry Potter experience. If I didn’t live on the other side of the U.S., I would definitely be there on opening day.

In addition to some of the aforementioned attractions, guests will also be able to purchase interactive wands, which will bestow users with the power to cast spells around certain areas of the new Harry Potter expansion. Much of the new area is designed, of course, to get people to purchase Harry Potter stuff. But, like Cars Land in Disney’s California Adventure, it’s amazing to see these famous movie sets re-created in the real world.

Universal shared a great behind-the-scenes look at Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which uses 3D technology, 4K animations and 360-degree sets for total immersion, and it looks absolutely amazing. Even if you’re not an avid Harry Potter fan, you can appreciate the kind of work that went into created Universal’s latest attraction, which is just weeks away from officially opening.

Harry Potter has become one of the most enduring fantasy franchises ever, so it’s great to see new experience being created around the universe. If you can’t attend Diagon Alley’s official opening on July 8, check out the pictures supplied by Universal Orlando. Look at those Goblins!
