That’s right: the classic PC adventure game Myst, the reason lots of people bought CD-ROM drives back in the day, is getting a TV adaptation via Legendary Entertainment, according to a report from Deadline.

“Cyan’s goal in working with Legendary is not just to create a compelling TV drama but to develop a true transmedia product that will include a companion video game that extends the story across both media,” said Cyan Worlds, the studio behind Mystin a statement to Deadline. “Seventy percent of tablet owners use their device while watching TV at least several times a week. Cyan sees the potential to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling to a new level.”

Myst released originally in 1993, so this might seem like they’re jumping on the bandwagon a bit late, but TV special effects are getting to the point finally where the visual style of Myst would be possible to replicate without costs going through the roof.

Additionally, a game built for tablets and smartphones could be a great match for a new Myst game, as we’ve seen with other touch-based puzzle games like Fireproof Games’ The Room series. There’s no release date for this Myst based series, as it’s likely in pre-production. If I had to guess, I’d think it’ll release around the same time as the recently announced Twin Peaks revival, while we’re talking about early 90s cult hits.
