Japan’s most popular virtual idol, Hatsune Miku, made her American television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman. The vocaloid powered singer performed a “live” show with a band of actual human beings, and the performance was dedicated to an art exhibition starring her in New York City.
Having been in Japan for nearly seven years, I realize through this clip just how amazing Japanese TV talent’s are at faking amazement from even the smallest things. When Hatsune Miku appears on TV, they try their absolute hardest to treat her like an actual human being and even try speaking with her.
David Letterman though… man, that’s just hilarious. Cultural differences, I suppose.
Many artists have contributed their pieces to the art show, including Final Fantasy artist and Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura. His vision of Hatusne Miku if she appeared in a Final Fantasy game is honestly kind of really creepy, even creepier than the “actual” Hatsune Miku.
