Google Fit, the search giant’s counterpoint to Apple’s HealthKit, is now available through Google Play. The health platform was announced all the way back at I/O in June, but is just now launching for devices running Android 4.0 and up.

By default, Fit will track data through your phone while you run, walk and cycle; you can set goals based on duration, steps and receive performance-based recommendations to help you reach your fitness goals. It’s nothing new for a fitness tracking platform, but if there’s one thing Google excels at, it’s collecting data, and Fit does exactly that.

Of course, you’ll be able to connect third-party devices and apps for more comprehensive readings, but all your fitness data will pull up in Fit. The interface looks easy enough to read and navigate, covering the most basic of a user’s fitness needs. Apple’s Health, meanwhile, is a little more confusing and not quite fleshed out as we wait on devices like the Apple Watch.

Google Fit is also compatible with Android Wear devices, a platform that just received a major update, so you can take your Moto 360 on a run (without your phone) and sync the data right in Google’s new health service. And if you want to access your health information on the Web, you can do so by going to google.com/fit.

You can pick up the app for free through the Google Play store now, and we’ve included a link for you in the source below.
