Kate Winslet is being considered for a lead role in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic from Universal Studios, claims a new report from Variety. The news comes just days after sources reported that Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Stuhlbarg will play Macintosh developer Andy Hertzfeld.
It’s unclear which role Winslet is being eyed for at this point, but some reports have suggested she could play Jobs’ daughter Lisa. The 39-year-old Oscar-nominated actress has previously starred in movies such as Titanic, The Reader, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – as well as the five-part HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce.
The Jobs biopic, which has been written by Aaron Sorkin and will be directed by Danny Boyle, was originally a Sony Pictures film until it was acquired by Universal just last month. Since then, the studio appears to have been working quickly to find its cast.
Michael Fassbender is expected to play Jobs himself, while Seth Rogen will reportedly play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Jeff Daniels, who recently worked with Sorkin on The Newsroom, will play former Apple CEO John Sculley, according to recent reports.
Shooting is expected to begin next spring before the biopic hits theaters towards the end of 2015.
