Shows like Doctor Who, Luther and the original The Office won’t be dropped from Netflix next month. Over the past couple days, anonymous reports claimed the popular streaming service would be parting ways with the BBC, in turn dropping a lot of beloved British TV. However, a Netflix spokesperson has confirmed to Variety exactly what will happen this February, and it’s mostly good news.
To be clear, some shows are getting the axe, such as Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and MI-5 once the clock strikes Feb. 1. But other popular titles, such as Doctor Who, Top Gear, Torchwood and Luther are all being kept around. Shows like Sherlock, Happy Valley, The Honorable Woman and Call the Midwife are unaffected, as they’re not yet up for renewal.
The constant renewal/expiration state of Netflix is certainly irritating from a subscriber perspective, but it’s all part of the streaming business. The list of movies being added and taken down in February hasn’t been revealed just yet, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for that.
