It hasn’t been an easy journey thus far, but the Steve Jobs biopic—not the Ashton Kutcher one—has finally begun filming. Michael Fassbender will don the trademark black turtle neck and faded jeans, while Seth Rogen is set to play lovable teddy bear Steve Wozniak. Other casting includes Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman and Katherine Waterston as Chrisann Brenna. Danny Boyle is set to direct.
Sony was originally supposed to release Steve Jobs, but eventually dropped the film following arguments over budget and final casting. That lead to Universal swooping in to the rescue, and now the cogs are being set in motion. Pictures and video of the set have actually been floating around for a few weeks now, showing the filmmakers setting up shop at the exact garage the first Apple computer was said to have been built.
Steve Jobs will take a different approach to the former Apple CEO’s life; the Aaron Sorkin-scripted film will follow Jobs during three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac.
With Fassbender and Boyle involved, there’s definitely hope for Steve Jobs despite the project’s much-publicized trouble; let’s just say we’re cautiously optimistic. Sorkin has already proved he’s more than capable of tackling tech-focused projects with The Social Network, so the script should be strong. The pieces are in place, now we’ll just have to see whether the film was worth all the trouble.
Universal hasn’t set a release date for Steve Jobs, but Collider so rightly suggests it could hit just in time for an awards push later this year.
