See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloWhen Jurassic World opens this summer, the main attraction won’t be herds of Velociraptors or even the T. Rex. That distinction is going to a genetically modified freak show known as Indominus Rex.
We got an unofficial glimpse at this guy’s ugly mug not that long ago, and new information has surfaced courtesy of Jurassic World’s official site. The stats on this gal are impressive; she’s not the kind of beast you’d want to mess with.
For starters, Indominus Rex is about 40 feet in length (weight TBD), and is capable of running at a brisk 30 mph—that’s while she’s confined to an enclosure, so imagine what she can do when she breaks free. Even Olympic sprinters wouldn’t be able to outrun her. And her roar, according to my bleeding ears, can reach an estimated 140-160db, which is the same as a 747 taking off and landing. So not only will you be chased down, but Indominus Rex can also scream your brains out. Pleasant.
“We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World,” the site explains. “At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abelisaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnosaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Gigantosaurus.”
Basically all the most terrifying dinosaurs rolled into one. I suppose that’s why Indominus Rex’s “aggression index” is rated at “very high.”
We don’t get a clear look at what Indominus Rex looks like—this leak still hasn’t been confirmed—though there are some silhouettes and a very ominous shot of her teeth. Let’s hope we don’t have to get that close when Jurassic World drops later this summer.
