Disney has been airing and uploading a series of Mickey Mouse shorts that are undeniably brilliant since June of last year. There are 35 episodes in total right now with a few more to come.
These shorts ring of classic Disney humor (with more adult jokes than those meant for kids), and they stand as the current best use of Mickey and his Pals. I’ve selected a few of my favorites for those uninitiated.
The series is directed by Paul Rudish. That might not be a household name to folks outside the animation world. You know Rudish’s stuff, though. He’s been involved with the likes of Samurai Jack, Batman: The Animated Series, Dexter’s Lab and Powerpuff Girls.
His work with Mickey? Really, really good.
These shorts have become a staple in my house. I check them out as soon as they’re uploaded (admittedly, one of the few YouTube channels I’m subscribed to), and my three year old son asks for them by subject whenever he sits down for a TV break.
I even managed to turn TB’s own Sean Aune onto them with a few links.
“Mickey’s for kids…” Yeah, yeah. These shorts are great, and it’s easily the best thing Disney has done with the Mouse in a very, very long time.
You should be watching them, especially if you grew up liking Disney stuff.
