The first images of Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs have cropped up, and he looks… like Michael Fassbender. One of the only redeeming qualities about Ashton Kutcher’s 2013 Jobs film was that he actually resembled Steve Jobs, but there is zero similarity here. Fassbender is no Kutcher, but that’s actually a very good thing.
Really, it’s a non-issue that Fassbender doesn’t look like the man he’s portraying onscreen. He’s a talented actor, with the presence and charm to play the beloved Apple figure, and that’s enough for me. I’m not expecting Lincoln levels of historical accuracy.
With casting finalized, filming for Steve Jobs recently got underway at the childhood home of Jobs, which is where the first Apple computer was built. It’s been a long, complicated, turbulent journey for the film up to this point, but a lot of terrific talent is involved. In addition to Fassbender, Danny Boyle is sitting in the director’s chair, while Seth Rogen is taking on the role of Steve Wozniak.
It’s unclear when Steve Jobs will hit theaters, but given the pedigree of talent, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it hit in time for award consideration at the end of this year.
