It’s not often that big rumors surrounding any product/game/movie are addressed by those involved with the project, but J.J. Abrams did just that during a recent awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

“There are a ton of rumors—some true, some false,” Abrams said. “But I’m grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie.”

Aside from Age of Ultron, The Force Awakens is arguably the most anticipated movie of the year—of the past decade. And, as a result, there have been a ton of rumors surrounding the movie’s plot, character motivations, spin-off films, and more. A lot of stuff we haven’t posted here on TechnoBuffalo, but if you’ve been following the progress of the film, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

But it’s just the nature of the business, Abrams admitted, responding to a question about the film’s script.

“We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn’t always work,” he said.

Abrams obviously didn’t specifically say which rumors are true or false—that would spoil the surprise. But it’s intriguing to hear that Abrams is not only following the reports circulating on the Internet, but admits some are true. That must be a troubling situation to be in for a filmmaker—or for anyone in any industry—knowing secrets are being spilled before the big unveil.

If you want to know absolutely nothing about The Force Awakens ahead of its Dec. 18 release, I’d recommend unplugging your router, going outside, and living in the mountains.
