After a pretty slick teaser from Focus Features earlier this week, the first trailer for Self/less has been released. And while it retreads some familiar concepts, the sci-fi thriller looks like a lot of fun.
Directed by Tarsem Singh (The Fall, Immortals), the film follows an outrageously wealthy man (Ben Kingsley), dying from cancer, who decides to undergo an operation that transfers his consciousness into another individual (Ryan Reynolds). And although the operation seems like a success in the early going, we soon find out that all is not what it seems. The body appears to have been acquired unethically (as if transferring your consciousness was ethical to begin with), launching a mystery around the organization responsible for the groundbreaking procedure.
They say a mind is a terrible thing to waste—why let your failing body be your demise?
“God created man. Man created immortality,” the movie’s tagline says.
Self/less is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2015.
