You know how I know we’re in a Golden Age of TV? Because The Expendables might make its way to primetime TV as an event series. At least that’s the report coming out of Deadline, which claims Fox is developing a series based on the movies.
Sylvester Stallone has apparently been tapped to executive produce the show, though it doesn’t sound like he’ll make an appearance in front of the camera. Instead, the hope it to unite a number of old TV stars “as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist,” Deadline said.
Who might some of those old TV action stars be? There’s no official list floating around, but we can venture some guesses. MacGyver’s Richard Dean Anderson would be great; Walker Texas Ranger’s Chuck Norris; 24’s Kiefer Sutherland; Magnum P.I.’s Tom Select; Quantum Leap’s Scott Bakula and even A-Team’s Mr. T. That list might be even better than the actual real Expendables.
But seriously, The Expendables isn’t quite as horrible as people make it out to be; it’s the kind of mindless fun you’d expect from a film that puts more emphasis on action than actual real dialog. Deadline notes an Expendables TV show has been floated before, but it might finally be coming to a TV near you.
