It’s been rumored for weeks now, but Fox has finally made it official. The X-Files will return to TV with a six-episode event series following a 13 year hiatus. Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to return, reprising their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This is amazingly good news for fans of the show, but even better news for fans of the supernatural. The X-Files has become a cult favorite among sci-fi fans, and the fact that it’s returning is like a dream come true.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said X-Files creator Chris Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
An official air date hasn’t been set, but who cares about the details at this point? People will be thrilled no matter what; I can already hear the theme song in my head. The X-Files used to be one of Fox’s prized possessions, becoming an icon over its nine season run. If you haven’t watched a single episode, now’s the time to get caught up, that way you’re prepared for what’s to come. (I haven’t watched any of it, so I know what I’ll be doing over the next few months.)
The truth is out there, folks.
