We all know I am a huge fan of Square Enix, and Final Fantasy writers have ripped off Star Wars in so many ways over the years that the fandom must have leaked over a little bit during my childhood. The two brands are so tightly knit in my nostalgia that when they come together, my brain proclaims to me that only good things must happen.

These three “Variant” Star Wars figurines are the result of what happens when the popular JRPG company gets to slap it with its usual brand of flamboyant style. However, the designers restrained themselves a little bit, unlike the Batman line of figures it produced last year, and the results should be impressive enough to teach Square Enix that restraint can be a good thing every once in a while.

Only villains here, by the way. Boba Fett and Darth Vader are both pretty cool, but my personal favorite of the bunch is the Stormtrooper. If Kingdom Hearts ever gets a chance to toy with the Star Wars property through its connections with Disney, here’s hoping that Square Enix contracts whatever excellent artist designed these.

Each runs for ¥12,960 in Japan ($108). Darth Vader will be available in May, and the others will be available in July.
