One of the best part of Avengers was its famous shawarma post-credits scene. It was a touching, funny and clever way to conclude what had been a long, difficult journey for the group, and a fun thing for fans to see. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like we’ll get another gem like that in Age of Ultron.
Entertainment Weekly spoke with writer/director Joss Whedon about the possibility of another “shawarma scene,” with Whedon admitting that was a one-off.
“We all came at it separately—we don’t want to chase that,” Whedon admitted. “That was a jewel and a weird little quirk.”
To clarify, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did say that there will still be a “tag,” which is a short scene that appears mid-credits. That will no doubt give us hints and teasers as what to expect next, so don’t leave the theater immediately after the credits begin to roll. Just know there won’t be anything at the very end.
Whedon said this is “not a fake-out,” and that he doesn’t want people to be surprised when nothing shows up after 10 minutes of waiting.
The easter egg scenes have become a staple of Marvel movies over the years, and I’m sure whatever does appear in the middle of Age of Ultron’s credits will be good. Just beware of any online channels leading up to the film’s May 1 release, because these surprises have a way of getting spoiled before people have a chance to see it themselves.
