Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" Premiere - Red Carpet

On the brink of Age of Ultron’s release on May 1, Marvel on Tuesday announced Joe and Anthony Russo will take over directing duties for Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2. The brothers previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is considered among critics and fans to be one of the stronger Marvel movies over the last few years; the two are also set to direct Captain America: Civil War.

Infinity War is going to be a massive part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it will help close out Phase 3, which also includes Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok and even a new Spider-Man film.

The duo have proven they can handle big properties, but Infinity War will definitely be their biggest test yet. It’ll be bittersweet to see Joss Whedon, who directed the first two Avengers movies, step down from his post, but perhaps he will return for one of Marvel’s many other planned standalone films.

This year we’ll see two major Marvel releases: Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, and Ant-Man on July 17. Beyond that, there are five other Marvel movies planned before the first Infinity War movie hits on May 4, 2018; Part 2 is currently scheduled for July 12, 2019.

Congrats to these guys, and good luck. They’re gonna need it.
