Asa Butterfield, who burst onto the Hollywood scene as Ender Wiggin in Ender’s Game, has reportedly been chosen by Marvel to be the next Spider-Man. Latino-Review says the young actor will don the famous Spidey suit, and make his onscreen debut in Captain America: Civil War, which is scheduled to come out early next year.

For the past month or so, there’s been a “short-list” of actors allegedly in the running to play the web slinger, though there was never any indication as to who was the number one pick. But, if this report is true, it appears Marvel and Sony saw something special in the 18-year-old, who also appeared in Hugo, Nanny McPhee Returns and The Wolfman.

In addition to an introductory role in Civil War, Spider-Man is also set to star in his own standalone film, which we already know will focus on a young Peter Parker as he navigates the treacherous world of high school.

If indeed Butterfield does make an appearance as Spider-Man in next year’s Captain America, he’ll be joining an ensemble cast of big-name Avengers, including Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch and more.

We should still consider this a rumor, but it sounds like Butterfield is going to be revealed as Spider-Man any day now.
