We’ve already seen Frank Grillo in his full Crossbones getup, but what’s behind the mask? Last time we saw Grillo’s character, Brock Rumlow, he was on the verge of death at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but judging by these photos, he has made a full and speedy recovery.
Without the Crossbones mask on, Grillo’s character features some major scarring over his eyes, though he doesn’t appear as if he’s any worse for wear. Granted, this is just him standing around the set, so we don’t really know how much he has been affected by his injuries. But our guess is the visible scars are just for dramatic effect, rather than any other added abilities.
Unless he underwent some kind of genetic-altering surgery, he shouldn’t have any abilities beyond being an expert marksman and adept at hand-to-hand combat. In the comics, he does eventually gain the ability to generate a circle of energy in front of his face, though I don’t see that big of an on-screen transformation happening. We’ll see!
For now, take a look at what Grillo looks like in his full Crossbones getup. We’ve already seen quite a few set photos from Captain America: Civil War—I can’t wait until a spy shot of Spider-Man pops up.
