The folks at Disneyland recently invited us to check out the world premiere of its new World of Color- Celebrate! show at Disney California Adventure Park. As part of Disneyland’s 60th anniversary this new show (Celebrate! replaces the original show that has been running since 2010) tells the story of Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse, Disney Animation classics, Disneyland and ends with a look towards the future. If you pay special attention you can also find multiple instances of Star Wars and Marvel characters throughout the show.

The new show, which plays nightly in the Paradise Pier section of the theme park, is narrated by, Neil Patrick Harris. Who, as it turns out, is a huge Disney fanatic.

Of course the above gallery just doesn’t do the show justice, for it is one of those things you really have to experience in person. The 1,200 dancing fountains, combined with the beautiful musical score, flaming fireballs all come together to tell a pretty spectacular immersive story. (Interesting tidbit, if you blow up fireballs, you end up with these insane smoke circle, see gallery below)

As part of this new production, 5 minutes of brand new animation were crated by the Walt Disney Feature Animation to augment the show. The digital projection sits on a 380-foot wide water screen blasting over 30 million pixels; for reference UltraHD and 4K displays sit at around 8.3-8.9ish million pixels respectively. What does it take to program all these special effects, including those 1,200 dancing fountains, all those frames of animation, mixed with lasers and pyrotechnics? 18 months of planning and 3 additional months of programming, that’s all.

World of Color – Celebrate! will begin its run Friday, May 22, which also coincide’s with the Disneyland Resort’s 24-hour party. That’s right you can spend all day/night at the parks. I hope you can stay up that long.

To add to the fun Disney is holding the Disneyland Diamond Days sweepstakes, which include actual one- and two-carat diamonds, priority access to select attractions, private parties at Disneyland, an overnight stay inside Disneyland Park and whole bunch of other really cool prizes. To enter head over to www.disneyland.com/DiamondDays beginning May 22. Good luck!

We’ll have more coverage from the event including so stay tuned.
