Chris Pine, best known for playing Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, is reportedly making his way to the DC Comics universe. Variety reports the actor is currently being courted by executives for a role in Wonder Woman, though he won’t be a hero, or even a goofy villain secretly plotting world domination. Instead, Pine will reportedly play Steve Trevor, who is simply known as the superhero’s primary love interest. Aw, cute.
Superheroes are regular people like you and me! So it stands to think that they also have romantic relationships. In the comics, Trevor was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who later went on to become Wonder Woman. Since the movie is expected to be an origin story, perhaps the film will closely follow their chance meeting on Paradise Island.
Wonder Woman, who is being played by Gal Gadot, isn’t scheduled to come out until 2017, so there’s still plenty of time to formulate a story. Pine’s involvement could potentially span several different movies, though for now he’s only expected to appear in her solo movie. Wonder Woman, meanwhile, is going to make her first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice when it hits theaters early next year.
