Chris Pratt won’t just be guarding the galaxy from ruthless aliens. He’ll also find himself on an interstellar spaceship bound for new worlds.
Ahead of the first trailer for Passengers, also starring Jennifer Lawrence, Entertainment Weekly spoke to the movie’s director Morten Tyldum, who revealed some new bits of information—and some new pictures, too.
According to Tyldum, Passengers is a “playful movie” that will make you “hold your breath.” He elaborated:
It’s one of those stories that really grabs you and you will fall in love with it. It’s very smart and funny and clever and such a page turner I couldn’t put it down. Every 10 pages, something new happens! At the same time it’s a very intimate movie while taking place on this epic scale. For me, it’s a story about what’s important to live a full life.
Tyldum went on to say that while the film’s ultimate goal is to entertain, it also asks big questions about what it means to feel happy. Below is the film’s official synopsis:
A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 60 years early.
Passengers hits theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
