Netflix already changed the way in which we consume visual entertainment over the course of just ten years, and it is not done surpassing impressive milestones. Currently, all projections put out by the company expect it to cross the 100 million subscriber marker this coming weekend.
Its latest Q1 financial report estimates that the company gained 4.95 million subscribers over the first three months of 2017, shy of its forecast of 5.2 million. This increase brings the grand total to 98.7 million, and the remaining 1.3 million should be scooped up by the weekend.
Currently, 51 million of those subscribers are located in the United States and 48 million live overseas. Analysts predict that the majority of Netflix subscribers will be international customers before the end of the year.
However, Growth has also slowed for Netflix with the company expected to bring in 8.12 million subscribers in the first half of 2017, lower than the 8.42 who joined in the first half of 2016. Overseas growth also slowed 22 percent. Netflix blames this trend on its most popular shows being pushed into the second half of the year.
Next stop, toppling HBO with Adam Sandler
Netflix isn’t done conquering the entertainment world just yet. HBO currently has 134 million worldwide subscribers, including its Internet-based streaming service, leaving Netflix in a distant second place.
Maybe another Adam Sandler movie or two will help it catch up to Westworld and Game of Thrones. Seriously, 500 million hours have been dedicated to this man through Netflix, according to the company.
Since the launch of The Ridiculous 6, Netflix members have spent more than half a billion hours enjoying the films of Adam Sandler.
Now, the real question is how to they determine the threshold of “enjoying.” I think more explanation is needed here.
