Here’s the official Blade Runner 2049 trailer

Sony on Monday released the official trailer for Blade Runner 2049, and it sure looks like it’s going to live up to the hype. The footage gives viewers a better look at the film’s world, and revisits Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who starred in the 1982 original.

We mostly got a sense for the movie’s premise in the teaser that was unveiled late last year. What’s new is the introduction of Jared Leto, who is apparently playing a character named Wallace. While his intentions remain a mystery, it looks like he’s a creator of new replicants—he creepily says Happy Birthday to a character who falls out of a womb-like pouch.

The trailer insists on telling us that Ryan Gosling’s character, LAPD Officer K, is somehow special. We’re not really sure what his deal is but, as he says in the trailer, he has a lot of questions for Deckard.

Here is the movie’s official synopsis:

A new blade runner, LAPD Officer K, discovers a dark secret that might bring an end to humanity. K’s discovery leads him to find Rick Deckard, a former blade runner who disappeared thirty years ago.

The visual style, music, and mystery makes Blade Runner 20149 one of this year’s most intriguing films—not to mention the fact that it’s being directed by Denis Villeneuve, who previously directed Sicario and Arrival.

Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters on October 6.
