What do LEGO and Minecraft have in common? Besides being tools to infinitely express your imagination through the power of creation, they both have the same producer working on their movies. The universally loved The LEGO Movie‘s producer, Roy Lee, along with Jill Messick, will be working with Warner Bros. and Mojang to bring Minecraft to the big screen.

Mojang co-founder and Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson confirmed the news on his Twitter page, stating he regrettably wasn’t able to beat the leaks.

He also sent a self-deprecating statement to Polygon on the issue, saying “Also, I [am] very well aware that this might be Minecraft jumping the shark, but how often do you get to be part of making a movie?”

Deadline originally had the story with Warner Bros. and Roy Lee’s involvement. Persson was unable to comment any further on the personnel involved.

It’s been nothing but good news for Minecraft this month. The massively popular game has crossed 100 million unique registrations and has sold over 14 million copies of the original PC version alone. Makes you wonder if we will ever reach the end of Minecraft, doesn’t it?

Anybody else down for a live action Minecraft movie?
