Paul McCartney Now Selling His Albums as iPad Apps

It’s no secret that music sales are in decline, but Paul McCartney may have a solution. The former Beatles frontman is selling five of his classic solo albums as individual iPad apps, offering each remastered record at a discount along with plenty of extra content McCartney fans will enjoy.

Starting today, you can grab Band on the Run, McCartney, McCartney II, RAM and Wings over America for $7.99 apiece, which is at least a few dollars cheaper than you’d pay buying it straight from iTunes. Each iPad app comes with extra videos, interviews, photos and artwork. It’s a tempting offer for any diehard McCartney fans out there.

iPad app albums aren’t new. The music industry originally considered the idea several years ago as a way to charge more for each record and bundle music with premium content. That strategy backfired, since most customers were happy to pay less for music they could easily access instead of having to open up a specific app just to hear a song. Maybe it will work better for Paul.
