See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloHave a big idea you think can change the future? As part of a new initiative meant to encourage imagination and a love for science, Disney is collaborating with XPRIZE for a new contest inspired by the new movie Tomorrowland.
The terms are simple: kids between the ages of 8 and 17 are being challenged to share their vision of a technology-filled future. If you have an awesome idea, Disney wants to hear about it. Maybe it’s a machine that will change the medical field, or something that will benefit education. Entrants will be required to present their idea using either video, pictures or text, and explain how it’ll change the world.
Sean Bailey, President, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, said the contest is being designed to foster the imaginations of young people, because that’s what a place like Tomorrowland represents.
“Disney is thrilled to work with XPRIZE to encourage and inspire the next generation of thinkers and dreams to build the future they imagine is possible,” Bailey said.
Winners will have the opportunity to partake in a mentorship experience with a leader in a their preferred area of interest. Additionally, winners will get a $3,000 check, a 3D printer and registration for FIRST LEGO League during the 2015-2016 season; groups will be split in two (8-12 years old, and 13-17 years old).
The submission period will begin on April 22, and will run through May 17. What kind of Tomorrowland would you create? Tomorrowland is set to hit theaters on May 22.
