The rebooted teenage Spider-Man movie isn’t expected to come out until summer of 2017, but the film may already have a title — or at least one that’s being considered.
Umberto Gonzalez, noted movie leaker, reports the flick will be dubbed Spider-Man: The New Avenger. Plain, simple, to the point. It leaves no wiggle room, and promptly announces that the beloved web slinger will indeed by part of Marvel’s plans going forward, instead of fighting crime by himself in a completely separate universe.
We’re expecting to see Spidey pop-up in Captain America: Civil War, which comes out next year. That will be but a precursor to the wallcrawler’s own main course; we do know Spidey’s solo movie will deal with a younger, more wisecracking Spider-Man, though we don’t know plot details, nor do we know who’s playing the part. There is, however, reportedly a shortlist of actors up for the starring role.
Now that Civil War has begun filming, I would imagine an actor will be announced sooner rather than later. While longtime Spider-Man fans will know that he’s not a “new” Avenger, it’ll be an easy way for the moviegoing audience to understand what the heck is going on. And, finally, all is right in the Spider-Man world.
