Jurassic World conquers the box office for a third weekend

It seems that nothing can stop the juggernaut that is Jurassic World as the dinos stampeded their way to another record.

With Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL as the only major additions to the box office next weekend, it will be interesting to see how things play out.

Jurassic World went into its third weekend with some stiff competition, but it still came out on top. It took in another $54 million, making it only the fifth film in history to break the $500 million dollar mark at the U.S. box office. This also makes it the top grossing film so far in the U.S. this year, and it looks like it will be tough for anyone to catch it. Globally it stands at $1.23 billion, making it the eighth highest grossing film of all time.

The most amazing aspect of this success is we still have not heard an official confirmation of a follow-up film.

2. Inside Out

Inside Out may have not won the weekend, but it’s doubtful anyone at Disney and Pixar are complaining. The film slipped a very respectable 42 percent from its opening weekend to take in $52.1 million. This now gives it a domestic total of $184.95 million.

3. Ted 2

Ted 2 was projected to take third place due to the heavy hitters at the top, but it came in a bit weaker than expected with an opening of $32 million. This is down $20 million from the opening weekend of the original film. A third film for the foul-mouthed bear seems unlikely now due to this.

4. Max

Fourth place went to Max, the story of a military dog. The new canine focused feature took in an estimated $12 million over its debut weekend.

5. Spy

Spy, starring Melissa McCarthy, is still holding on and brought in another $7 million this weekend for a new domestic total of $87.3 million.
