Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took to his Facebook page on Monday to announce the sequel’s title, and it’s a nice little nod to the first movie. Several fans actually already guessed the title, but after Marvel chief Kevin Feige let it slip during an Ant-Man press junket, Gunn decided to let us in on the secret. The nomenclature is a play on the first film’s throwback mixtape, which was Awesome Mix Vol. 1. Gunn has already said that there’s going to be an Awesome Mix Vol. 2.

When the movie hits theaters, it’ll be known as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Not only is it a fun little joke, but it suggests we’ll get an even better look at the characters that were introduced in the 2014 film.

Yes, the official titles of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I’m really happy about because God knows I’ve let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page.

Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”—I wanted to badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait.

For Kevin to mess up. Haha.

Gunn recently shed light on the project, saying it would be a more emotionally-charged film about fathers, and a deeper exploration of the five guardians (Groot, Rocket, Peter Quill, Drax and Gamora). How it’ll further slot into the MCU remains to be seen. But early drafts of the script have apparently been so solid that it made Chris Pratt cry. Aw.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for a May 5, 2017 release.
