The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will be going into deep space. Justin Lin, director of the third Star Trek movie, confirmed on Twitter that the official title will be Star Trek Beyond. The confirmation was accompanied by the familiar delta shield, which is affixed to a Starfleet uniform.
The title has actually been rumored at for a while now—at least as far back as April—so it probably won’t be a surprise for a lot of people. But it finally confirms that the crew will go even deeper into space, though other big plot details aren’t yet available. With filming now underway, we do know that Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana will all reprise their roles; Idris Elba is apparently up for the villain role.
Star Trek Beyond is currently scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release. For what it’s worth, both Pine and Quinto have allegedly signed on for a fourth film, so we also have that to look forward to as well.
